Palmer House Hilton Hotel

This Hilton is on the opposite end of the classy spectrum than its namesake heiress. Everytime I'm in the neighborhood, I make it a point to poke my head into the Palmer House Hilton, whether for a quick bite to eat, a cocktail, or just to sit for a moment and soak up the ambience of its grand lobby and imagine all of the history that took place in its exquisite ballrooms. It's a hotel treasured as a landmark by the residents of Chicago -- I'm such a big fan of the Palmer House Hilton hotel, I even had my wedding there!

do not stay at the Palmer House Hilton if you want to get treated badly by the staff and management because they cannot own up to their own mistakes. the hotel screwed up on our reservation and then made us pay for it by not providing us with better accomodations…we had 3 people in a room with 1 king bed because they had not rooms with double beds when we checked in (it was only 4 pm) even though we had reserved a room with 2 double beds. they were unhelpful and unaccomodating. did not even provide us with a cot becasue they did not have any left. the rooms are not great…they are small and shabby. its not worth your money to stay here…take it from someone who was not impressed at all. if you are looking for a nice place then this is not it. there are so many better places in chicago for less or equal the value.
Actually I have to disagree with the other person who commented. My fiance and I stayed in in May 2007 for our anniversary weekend and it was lovely. We had a renovated room which was really very nice and clean, well decorated (we are from Chicago but I really did feel like I was on vacation somewhere else!) and the bed was super comfortable. The staff was friendly, although we didn’t really deal with them much. I’m actually also looking in to hosting my wedding here. It’s beautiful and a great chicago landmark.
