No Fungus Among Us at Midway and O'Hare Airports

Tuesday August 22, 2006

Part of the increased security at Chicago airports due to the foiled terrorist plot at Heathrow Airport requires that all passengers remove their shoes at security checkpoints. Previously this had been a voluntary measure by security companies, but now the TSA is making it mandatory for all. Needless to say, some passengers aren't really keen (myself included) about walking barefoot on the airport floors -- which are certainly less than sanitary.

Well, the Chicago Department of Aviation has responded. They will be providing disposable, non-skid foot covers for passengers to wear while they wait in line. Says Aviation Commissioner Nuria I. Fernandez, “We felt that our airports should respond by providing foot covers for travelers who would rather not walk barefoot through the security checkpoint.” Bravo, Ms. Fernandez, for making this further travel inconvenience a little easier to take! The foot covers will be provided for as long as the TSA requirement is in place.

Greatest airport idea since our security rules were stepped up. This should be a mandatory national rule for all airports to provide foot booties.
