Chicago History Museum Reborn
The Chicago History Museum (formerly the Chicago Historical Society until a name change in February of this year) has just completed a major renovation of over 75% of its space, and is reopening to the public tomorrow, September 30, in honor of their 150th anniversary. Besides adding to their already vast collection with the opening of new galleries such as Chicago: Crossroads of America, and Sensing Chicago (their new children's gallery), they are kicking things off with a couple of great temporary exhibits as well.
Dior: The New Look features a large collection of clothing by Parisian fashion designer, Christian Dior, and focuses on Dior's relationship with Chicago department stores, such as our newly and dearly departed Marshall Field's. Open through May 20, 2007. Ed Paschke takes a look at the history of Chicago resident artist Ed Paschke, one of America's most important late-20th century artists. The exhibit features pieces from throughout his career, including a partially finished painting found in Paschke's studio shortly after his death. Art students in particular will get a charge out of seeing the Museum's recreation of his studio, providing a rare glimpse at a great artist's painting methods and inspiration. Open through February 19, 2007.
