Bars and Taverns

A little bit of trivia: Chicago has more bars and taverns per capita than any other city in the country. No surprise here -- Chicagoans are extremely social creatures, and we need places to escape during our notorious winters!
Chicago Hotel Rooftop Bars
Chicago hotel rooftop bars have exploded lately. Once upon a time, the roofs of hotels housed only their unsightly heating and air-conditioning hardware. Then, in 2000, the Park Hyatt opened NoMI Garden on the 7th Floor of their hotel. They, unknowingly, also opened the floodgates to what can be termed the Chicago Hotel Rooftop Renaissance.
The Violet Hour
The Violet Hour's speakeasy vibe and extreme dedication to the craft of mixology and cocktails take this spot to another level above the average lounge.
Wicker Park Tavern
This late-night yuppy watering hole is at Wicker Park's ground zero people watching intersection of North, Milwaukee and Damen Avenues.
