St. Patrick's Day in Chicago

Chicago has a long Irish history. From the early settlers to our current mayor "Hizzoner" Richard M. Daley, the Irish culture is a big part of Chicago. So it's no wonder that when March 17th rolls around, the Windy City goes into celebration overdrive.
St. Patrick's Day Parade in Chicago
St. Patrick's Day is a huge holiday in Chicago, and the parade is the largest in the city (you may have seen Harrison Ford utilize the large crowds to escape in "The Fugitive"). Led by our Irish king, "Hizzoner" Mayor Richard M. Daley, thousands line up along Columbus Drive the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day. No matter your heritage, everyone at the parade is full of Irish blood, blarney, and green beer.
Chicago's South Side Irish Parade
Chicago's south side is home to a large Irish Catholic population, and this parade that started as 17 children marching around the block in 1980 has grown to 15,000 marchers and over a quarter million spectators every year.
Forever Green Charity Event
Every St. Patrick's Day, the Young Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago hosts a celebration in the Navy Pier Grand Ballroom. Forever Green features live Irish music acts and is usually attended by thousands of people, raising over $20,000 for Chicago charities.
